Position Overview: The Director of Music and Music Ministry is a member of the pastoral team. The Director serves the needs of the parish community of Most Holy Redeemer. The Director of Music and Music Ministry shall be committed to Vatican II principles seeking to involve the assembly in active participation in the liturgy, especially in regards to music.

The Parish Community: Most Holy Redeemer (MHR) Parish, located at 100 Diamond Street has existed as the Roman Catholic religious center of the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco since 1900. Located 2 blocks from the heart of the historic Castro district, the parish reflects the diversity and excitement of the surrounding neighborhood. MHR is an inclusive Catholic community -- embracing all
people of faith -- Catholics as well as those people interested in learning about the Catholic experience --

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide musical leadership for 3 weekend masses as well as holy days, special masses and other liturgical celebrations
• Weekly choir rehearsal for adult volunteer choir with paid quartet
• Schedule and preparation of cantors for all Masses and liturgical celebrations
• Preparation of worship aids for all liturgies
• Oversee maintenance, restoration and possible development of 1930’s Austin pipe organ (log on

• Oversee maintenance of two pianos (one studio, one grand) and harpsichord
• Member of parish liturgy committee
• Prepare and oversee music budget for the parish in cooperation with the parish finance council
• Maintain parish music library
• Arrange for additional singers and instrumentalists for special liturgies including music selection, musical arrangement and rehearsal
• Arrange for substitutes when absent (vacations, professional development, etc.)
• Consultation for funerals and weddings (at additional stipend)
• Liaison with performing groups that use MHR as a concert venue

Requirements
• Proficient in organ, choral and vocal skills; ability to integrate instrumentalists
• Knowledge of music and liturgy in the Roman Catholic church, both contemporary and traditional repertoire
• Excellent communication, team building and administration skills
• Ability to recruit, develop and maintain volunteers
• Proficient in developing choral and vocal skills with volunteer and paid singers
• Basic computer skills
• Degree in music preferred
